《今年夏天咱们去哪儿?》(Where Shall We Go This Summer?)
Where Shall We Go This Summer? Was published in 1975 and in 1979 was awarded the Outstanding Writing Award by the Federation of Indian Publishers and Writers. This is a short length but quite reflect Desai creative features of the novel. The plot is extremely simple: a lonely, sensitive, near-neurotic woman, horrified by the brutality, dullness and boredom of real life, fled to the Island of myriad magical experiences as an adolescent girl, bent on taking the saintly father’s life here The power of magic, to create a “miracle of not having a baby” - to leave the fifth child to be born in her belly, to give her a “different kind of life.” What followed was a series of disappointments, memories, disappointments, disillusionments, and despair, until finally she realized the truth, went out of his illusion, and went home safe and safe under her care - a farce. However, in the narration between Chen, lyrical and sarcastic combination of variations, Desai to dense image interpretation of the pen is actually a scene of self-examination, unrealistic exploration, facing absurd life tragedy and comedy. Desperate Crazy West finally may have rationally endorsed the scientific logic of two plus two can equal four, but that “one two may be withering, and the other two is masturbation but the question is Can not be safely and securely erased with her when she returns to the mainland - ”Once the wound is torn, the wound will always be there.“ The farce is over, but the spiritual journey is still going on. Desai took the title that Sitta had escaped from the revelation: ”Where are we going this summer?" - Still a relentless search for harmony between body and mind: Where are we going this summer? Tell me, Where are we going this summer? This book was translated by the Indian Oriental Press in 1975.
