美国的有线电视是在50年代初兴起的。当时,在美国一些山区和边远地区拥有电视接收机的人,由于气候不良和高山阻挡等因素的影响,总是收不到清晰的电视图象。无线电商人就用电缆把电视台和电视接收机连接起来,同时按一定的标准收费,解决了这个问题。所以,有线电视又叫电缆电视(Coble Teleuision)。现在,有线电视经过了30多年的发展,已显示出强大的生命力,成为具有广泛用途、普及率极高的现代化传播媒介。
Cable television in the United States rose in the early 1950s.
