一《中国社会科学》1992年第4期所载魏良弢先生的大作《西域史上的一个幻影——“伊斯兰神圣国家”或“和卓时代”考实》一文,详举国外业已刊布的有关西域穆斯林史料,并结合中西方历史文献记载,分阶段系统考察了玛哈图木·阿杂木和卓家族在我国天山南路活动的情况,对17—18世纪西域回部政教关系史进行了新的研究探讨。在重点分析《和卓传》英文节译本存在的问题时,作者认为,该书的基本梅架是:“西域和卓家族是先知穆罕默德的后裔,准噶尔汗国灭叶尔羌汗国之后,根据事先达成的协议,白山派和卓阿帕克成为天山南路的汗(着重号为引者所加),此后,白山派和卓与黑山派和卓虽相互交替但始终统治着这一地区,直至大小和卓毙命,清朝统一西域”(第105页)。这里,“白山派和卓阿帕克成为天山南路的汗”一语中的“汗”字值得推敲。因为
