承蒙你们对来自欧洲的我发出邀请并让我作主旨演讲,这对我来说是一个特别荣幸的机会。因为我将你们这次会议看作为亚洲海洋地质学家和来自其它四个大陆的科学家们聚会的一次机会。因此,借此机会我代表个人和所有其它外国与会者向会议组织者,特别是汪品先教授和他的同事们表示感谢。按照中国的一句成语:“学海无涯”。我们大家都应该通过这座桥梁来相互学习。然而作为一个海洋地质学家,在看过你们会议的议程后,我愿反其意说:“海学无边”。我还要给海洋地质学定义为:“从海洋到陆地的地质学”,这也是今天我的主旨演讲的题目。
Thanks to your invitation to me from Europe and to give me a keynote address, this is an especially privileged opportunity for me. Because I see you at this meeting as an opportunity for the gathering of Asian marine geologists and scientists from four other continents. Therefore, on behalf of individuals and all other foreign participants, I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the organizers, especially Professor Wang Pinxian and his colleagues. According to an idiom in China: “Learning sea knows no boundaries.” We should all learn from each other through this bridge. However, as a marine geologist, after looking at the agenda of your meeting, I would like to say the opposite: “Ocean is boundless.” I also want to define marine geology as: “Geology from the sea to the land”, which is also the subject of my keynote address today.
