整个六五期间广州市中小学的勤工俭学有很大的发展。校办工厂、农场总产值达二亿五千万元,获利润四千八百五十二万元,其中创外汇收入一千一百二十二万美元。(合人民币三千万元)。目前广州市中小学已建立校办工厂(车间)六百七十间,校办农场五百零七个,拥有一批五金、电器、机械、化工、工艺美术、种植林果等作物的生产工人。全市有六十间学校的校办厂同八十多个港商签订来料加工合同近四百份。校办工厂、农场的经济收益有效地改善了各校的办学条件和提高了师生的福利待遇,促进了广州市教育事业的发展。
