This paper introduces the main content of the Chomsky discourse theory and tries tentatively to analyze two types of sentence patterns in Japanese, which include common and complex event structures. The conclusion is that Japanese sentences can be deduced in the large frame of CP + TP + v * P / vP + VP. The passive morpheme “(r) are” is a passive functional category that extends v * P with complete structure of arguments or vP with incomplete structure of arguments. In the process of deducing the indirect long passive sentences, the implicit APPL morpheme Ph directs the non-core APPL argument to enter the basic argument structure of the verb and elevates it to the core argument.
