As a leader of the May Fourth Movement, he attached great importance to the emancipation of human thought and paid attention to the man sleeping in misery, especially the most oppressed female. On the issue of women, as a male writer, he does not overly blame the enslavement and control of men and women in the old social system in China. Instead, he hopes to achieve the equality of both sexes in a harmonious way. This article tries hard to use the images of both men and women in Xu Di - shan ’s works as the starting point, and discusses the viewpoints of the two sexes under the domination of their outlook on life and aesthetics.
