本世纪留学生文学主题的演变经历了三个不同的阶段，即从世纪初的“爱国与思乡”的吟咏，发展到五六十年代“物质与精神双重困境”的描述与对民族情感回归的呼唤，及至八九十年代对当代世界的全面关注。各个阶段的留学生文学各有不同的时代主题，呈现了一条因时代变迁而变化的轨迹，向我们展现出一个流动的、多元的当代世界景观。
The evolution of the theme of overseas students’ literature in this century has gone through three different stages: from the chanting of patriotism and homesickness in the beginning of this century to the description of the double dilemma of material and spiritual in the 1950s and 1960s and the call for the return of national sentiment , And to the full attention of the contemporary world in the 80s and 90s. The students’ literature at all stages has its own theme of the times, presenting a trajectory that has changed as a result of the changes of the times, showing us a flowing and diverse landscape of the contemporary world.
