新中国成立以来,在党的领导和广大人民群众的努力下,广东省水利事业取得了较大的发展.全省已拥有大量的防洪、灌溉、排涝、发电等水利工程设施,总造价在一百亿元以上.在4,713万亩耕地中,有效灌溉面积占82%,其中达到旱涝保收的占63%.1984年全省粮食总产391亿斤,为1949年的2.7倍.水利建设起了重要作用.
