Gordon and Joass made the following remarks in 1863: In previous years, local pastor George Campbell found “crustaceans” in the upper red sandstone (Devonian) in the present-day Tarbat Ness SSSI area of Easter Ross, Scotland Footprints of “reptiles”. Campbell is known for collecting specimens, but unfortunately neither his collection nor his drawings of his collection have apparently been left in the priest’s house or in the hands of his offspring. The extant piece of Campbell’s specimen (kept at the Elgin Museum) is a so-called “reptile footprints” that in fact looks similar to the footprints of arthropods that are still preserved in Tarbat.
