2012年2月17日,陕西省地质矿产勘查开发公司物化探分公司青海项目部3名队员在可可西里地区作业时失踪。目前,由各方组成的1000多人的搜救队,已在方圆1000多平方公里的地方进行搜救,依然没有新的线索。失踪区域:赤布张措湖3名陕西地质人员失踪的区域是在可可西里的赤布张措湖,这里海拔4900米至5500米,西距青藏公路温泉兵站300多公里,南部属于唐古拉山脉,存在大量现代冰川。此次地质调查的区域高寒,最低温度-37℃;氧气含量不足50%,属于严重缺氧;是典型的大陆高原气候,也是地质工作少有的空白区域之一。
