A large number of Shakespearean plays in the novel “Set in One” by the American best-selling author John Owen’s new works “The All in One” comments on Shakespearean dramas and novel characters for Shakespeare fully reflect Shakespeare’s sources. The interpretation of this novel can start from three characters in Shakespearean drama, Richard II, Richard II, Elven in The Tempest and Sherlock in The Merchant of Venice. With these three characters, Owen demonstrated the marginalized life of “sex outsider” in the novel, put forward the viewpoint of variability of gender identity and refuted the social intolerance of “sex outsider” . As an example of the interpretation of Shakespeare in the new era, “Putting It All Together” confirms the value and significance of Shakespeare as a literary classics across the times, and then leads us to think about the modern interpretation of the literary classics.
