NADPH-d histochemistry was used to observe the distribution of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) positive neurons in the hypothalamus of cats. The results showed that nitric oxide synthase positive neurons were widely distributed in the paraventricular nucleus of the cat hypothalamus, suprachiasmatic nucleus, dorsal medial nucleus, perfornaphagil, hypothalamic anterior region and hypothalamic lateral region. Two of them were significantly different from that of rats: one was positive for nitric oxide synthase in cat’s suprachiasmatic nucleus and negative in the suprachiasmatic nucleus in rats; the other was nitric oxide synthesis in supraoptic nucleus of rats Enzyme showed a strong positive reaction, while cats on the nucleus of nitric oxide synthase positive neurons only vaguely visible.
