近年来，东风电热元件厂和陕西省地质局技术方法研究队组成的工人、干部、技术人员“三结合”试验小组，破除迷信，大胆创新，因陋就简，开展了低温电铸人造金刚石扩孔器的研制工作。自一九七四年七月起，已先后研制出三批扩孔器，经过初步生产试验，取得可喜效果。投入试验的扩孔器共七个。到目前为止，平均每个扩孔器配合（金刚石钻头）进尺量已超过65米，其中有六个扩孔器尚在继续使用。其中5602号扩孔器在7—9级花岗岩中配合进尺量已达202.49米。此种扩孔器在某些岩层中均取得较好效果（见下表）。
