现行译林版《牛津初中英语》编写指导思想是以义务教育《英语课程标准》为依据,摒弃传统课本编排的旧框框,力求在保证基本要求的基础上,给老师和学生提供更宽阔的发展空间。所以牛津版教材的显著特点是词汇量、阅读量大。了解这一点是使用好这套教材的前提和保证,《牛津初中英语》除了《课程标准》中注明的学生必须掌握词汇,还有暂不要求学生掌握的单词,由于行文和上下文需要,教材无法避免的出现标准以外的词汇,教学中应该对不同学习基础和不同学习潜力的学生可以提出不同的要求,不能搞一刀切。
