Brief Introduction to the Twelfth National Congress of the Communist Party of China held in Beijing from September 1 to 11, 1982. There were 1545 official representatives, 145 alternate representatives and over 39 million party members nationwide. Deng Xiaoping made an opening speech and Hu Yaobang made a report titled “Opening up a New Situation in Building an All-round Socialist Modernization.” In his opening speech, Deng Xiaoping proposed the important thinking of “walking on our own path and building socialism with Chinese characteristics.” The “Constitution of the Communist Party of China” adopted by the General Assembly is suitable for the reform, opening up and socialist modern times
