欧阳询(557—641),字信本,唐潭州临湘(今湖南长沙)人。官太子率更令,封勃海男。聪悟绝人,博览古今,书则八体尽能,尤工正、行。飞白冠绝,峻于古人,风神严劲,别成一体。与虞世南、褚遂良、薛稷并称为唐凹大书家。存世书迹尚多,以《经度寺碑》、《九成宫碑》及传本墨迹《张翰》、《卜商》、《梦奠》等帖,最为历代书家所重。为缅怀前贤风范,激励书道后学,挖掘民族艺术精华,展示当代书法名家风采,使艺德高尚、才情卓著的书法艺术家走向社会的前台,欧阳询故里——欧阳询书法艺术学会几年来在成功举办“醴泉铭杯”、“欧阳询杯”全国书画大赛以米,得到了书画界的广泛好评。经有关部门批准,特举办“欧阳询奖”全国书法大赛,现面向全国公开征稿。
