The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory and Northrop Grumman are jointly developing a stealth airborne reconnaissance system called the “sensor airplane.” The aircraft uses on-board sensor systems to perform its mission and is scheduled to begin operation during 2015-2020. It is envisaged that “sensor aircraft ” can carry radar, video cameras and data links, flying 60-80 hours at a height of 198,200 meters above the battlefield.
