In recent years, studies have shown that sulfated polysaccharides exhibit broad-spectrum antiviral activity against a variety of enveloped viruses including human herpesviruses (HSVs) that act as pathogens in immunosuppressive (such as transplants) or immunodeficiency (such as AIDS) patients. Human cytomegalovirus. The authors studied the anti-HSV-1, -2 and anticoagulant activities of the extracts of B. montagne (BM) aqueous extracts and galactosylglycans. The dried BM powder was extracted with distilled water at 25°C and ethanol precipitated to give the polysaccharide (BCW). The remaining residue was used at 85°C.
