皮尔斯病是一种细菌性病害,对葡萄园具有毁灭性危害,主要靠玻璃翅叶蝉(glassy-winged sharpshooter)进行传播,因此,对玻璃翅叶蝉的防控措施非常重要。最近,立法委要求葡萄种植者继续注资加强该害虫的防控力度,纳帕谷葡萄酒工业对此表示赞同。正在进行的玻璃翅叶蝉研究项目将于2010年底结束,州参议员Patricia Wiggins和D-Santa Rosa正在想法延长此项目至2016年,目前该提案正上报参议院拨款委员会(Senate Appropriations Committee)审理中。
