过去人们一般把天山地槽分为三个二级构造带,即南天山冒地槽褶皱带、中天山结晶轴和北天山优地槽褶皱带。南天山冒地槽褶皱带和北天山优地槽褶皱带,在沉积建造、岩浆活动、生物群类型和地质构造特征等方面都有明显的差异。其原因何在?过去一直用“中天山结晶轴”长期隆起把这两个地区分隔开来解释。笔者于1977—1978年对该地区进行了两次登山地质考察后认为,南北天山地质构造之所以不同,并不是所谓“中天山结晶轴”长期隆起的结果,而是由于分属于两个不同的板块所致。前人所称的“中天山结晶轴”,实际上是地缝合线及其两侧的变质带。其根据
