I. Analysis of the Economic Relations between Hong Kong and the European Union EU (European Union). Formerly known as the European Economic Community (also known as the European Common Market) was first created by France, the West Germany and Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg in January 1958 on the basis of the Rome Treaty signed in March 1957 by the aforementioned six nations Regional economic organizations.
