国际联机情报检索是在终端计算机上,使用一些指令和检索词,通过卫星通讯系统,让用户与远隔重洋的计算机进行人机对话,并可随时修改自己的提问,以便得到最好的检索结果。这种跨越国界的资料检索,就是所谓的国际联机情报检索。联机情报检索,始于六十年代中期,到目前已形成国际性的联机情报检索系统。国际上较大的联机检索系统共有100多个,遍布世界各主要国家和地区。1983年中国科技情报所开始利用计算机终端,先后在北京、上海、南京、成都、重庆、厦门等城市建立了国际联机情报检索终端,
