The principal conductor lounge of the Berlin Philharmonic has so far been the same as the early 1960s. No one dared to move a piece of furniture after the Karayan era, let alone replace it. Seiji Ozawa and Yundi Li is here to rest, this is their first co-recorded recordings. Together with Berlin Philharmonic, they are recording Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major for DG. Prokofiev’s Steel Association, an early work written in 1913 and revised in 1923, was very jarring and violent in memory of Max Schmidtsov, the devoted friend of the composer’s suicide. LaVuere’s neoclassical work, however, is fluid and is the composer’s old-timer, premiered in 1932. Seiji Ozawa and Yundi Li will be the combination of excitement.
