Quartz from the major ore-forming stage of the Aktishkan gold deposit in the Nurt region of Northern Altay, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, was analyzed by the 4oAr/39Ar fast-neutron activation dating technique, which gave a well-defined plateau age of 138.5±2. lMa and an isochron age of 135.414.2Ma. Combined with other geochronological data and the geological characteristics, it is concluded that there existed a Yanshanian gold metallogenetic epoch in the Northern Altay of Xinjiang, and the Yanshanian may be the principal mineralization period for gold deposits in the Nurt region.
