Cistanche deserticola Y.C.Ma is a parasitic plant that grows in northern and northwestern China. Acetoside (1) and echinacoside, the main components of which are reported to have hepatoprotective effects on hepatotoxicity induced by CCl_4 and D-galactosamine (D-GaLN). The authors reported in vitro hepatotoxicity induced by CCl_4 and D-GaLN on 4 compounds including acetoside, 2’-acetylacetoside (2), isoacetoside (3) and tubuloside B (4) isolated from Cistanche.
