十八世纪以来,英语最显著的特点是词汇量增加,新词广泛使用,一些传统的构词方法如逆成(back-formation)、词性转换(conversion)、派生(deriva-tion)已经远远不能满足扩大新词的需要,于是一些新途径便应运而生。归纳起来有如下四种主要途径:
