Hawthorne took the essence of Gothic literature, to its dregs, the horror from a simple picture, the scene layout to the human inner world of fear and humanity above the good and evil, thus establishing its own unique “Gothic Romans” Creative style. The marginalization of Gothic literature makes Hawthorne lag behind in his studies in China. However, the concern about Hawthorn’s novels has been gradually raised in recent years. On the basis of previous studies, this article will review Hawthorne’s representative works and take “ Scarlet Letter ”as the key point, to interpret Hawthorne ’s unique novel features.
