Due to the discovery of a new copper deposit in southwestern Poland in 1957, copper metallurgy has developed rapidly in the last 15 years. Polish flotation concentrates are characterized by similar amounts of copper (17-32%) and iron and sulfur (-2-5%, 7-10%, respectively) compared to the world’s concentrate. Another feature is the organic carbon (5 ~ 7.5%) and lead (1 ~ 3%). In Poland, the two methods of producing copper ore are the blast furnace method and the flash-melting method. This article describes the conditions and parameters of these two methods, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, and discusses the new technologies and processes used in copper metallurgy.
