Prostate cancer is a common malignant tumor in American men. Currently, there are not many recognized risk factors. Family history studies suggest that the disease is affected by genetic factors. However, most cases of prostate cancer cannot be explained by single-gene genetic models. The differentiation of prostate cells is affected by the two steroid hormones testosterone and VitD, and their effects are mediated by their respective receptors, which are candidate genes in a multi-gene model of prostate cancer susceptibility. The purpose of this study was to use a case-control study to investigate the relationship between the genetic polymorphisms of the two steroid receptors, the androgen receptor (AR) and the VitD receptor (VDR), and the risk of prostate cancer.
