The water control in the high-water turbidite oilfield in the Los Angeles basin of the United States was statistically analyzed. Some reports and analysis results may be of reference for water control in other high water-cut oil fields. The case study demonstrates the reasonable cost of water control and the economic expenditure. The US Department of Energy’s PUMP (Preferential Oil and Gas Field Industrial Management Practices) program and the California State Energy Commission financed a high water-cut oilfield water control collaborative research project managed by the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council (PTTC). Oilfield operators in the Los Angeles Basin provided water management information for the project. In order to identify the major factors that affect water control issues and solutions, the data from seven fields in the Los Angeles basin are analyzed. Oil production in these fields accounts for more than half of the total oil production in the entire Los Angeles basin.
