Since the 1980s, the U.S. government’s fiscal deficit has risen steadily from 57.932 billion U.S. dollars in 1981 to 152 billion U.S. dollars in 1989. The huge fiscal deficit has become a potential crisis in the U.S. economy. The U.S. government has taken different approaches to solving the deficit problem. This article will explore the practical utility of these measures and the difficulties they face in solving the deficit. The U.S. fiscal revenue mainly comes from personal income tax, corporate income tax and social security tax. Social insurance tax is the employee’s and employee’s contribution insurance and retirement benefits respectively paid by the government.
