Julius Caesar is Shakespeare’s historical model. For a long time, critics have mostly focused on the protagonists, Caesar and Brutus. The initial caller of the assassination, Cassius, is often regarded simply as a bitter, ambitious villain, The motive for assassination is more attributed to personal interests. However, if you read the text carefully, you will find that the character image of Casey is not so simple. Behind the assassination is his persistent pursuit of freedom and his support for the spirit of republicanism. From his respect for friendship and the evaluation of historical figures of the same period, it is not hard to see the noble qualities and respected status of Cassius. This article will review the minor figure of Cassius through textual elaboration so as to seek an objective and fair evaluation of Cassius.
