Metals used in the natural atmosphere are strongly influenced by climatic factors such as temperature, humidity, sunlight, etc. Due to the complexity of the relationship between atmospheric corrosion and various factors, it is not possible to propose a simple method for quickly assessing the severity of atmospheric corrosion. Instead, only long-term and cumbersome corrosion tests can be conducted under actual atmospheric conditions. Vernon discovered more than 50 years ago that metal corrosion will rapidly aggravate when atmospheric relative humidity exceeds what is called “critical humidity.” Sereda invented a method of measuring the “wet-out time” of a metal surface, but Sereda’s device does not continuously monitor metal exposure to the atmosphere
