This article discusses the efficiency of fertilizer under tropical conditions. Understanding fertilizer efficiency is particularly important for developing countries, where it is necessary to increase production and reduce costs. The paper discusses factors that affect the efficiency of fertilizers in tropical soils, plants, and climate. Most of the tropical soil is acidic, low fertilizer efficiency, mainly because the root can not grow, can not make full use of soil available nutrients. In order to increase production, it is necessary to understand the relationship between crop varieties and soil and climate. The current crop yields in tropical countries are far below the highest known yields due to the lack of suitable crop varieties and advanced agricultural practices in those countries and the authors suggest that tropical countries should intensify their research on fertilizer efficiency.
