北京邮电大学是一所以工科为主,工管文理相结合的全国重点大学,它的特色是以通信、信息电子学和现代管理科学为主,是国家列入“九五”期间进行重点建设的58所“211工程”院校之一。北京邮电大学校园网原有网络采用了FDDI 技术,随着校园网内应用需求的增加及 CERNET 网络流量及速率的增加,原网络已不能满足需求,在校园网二期工程中通过对各种方案的分析、比较,最终采用了千兆以太网做为主干技术对原有网络进行了改造。
