Objective: To study the expression of serum matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) and interleukin-15 (IL-15) in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and its clinical significance. Methods: From January 2015 to September 2016 in our hospital 50 cases of AS patients. According to the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), patients were divided into group A (index ≥6), 28 cases and group B (index <6), 22 cases. In addition, according to Bath ankylosing spondylitis functional index (BASFI), patients were divided into group Ⅰ (index ≥ 6) in 29 cases, group Ⅱ (index <6) in 21 cases. Another take the same period, 30 healthy subjects were recorded as the control group. The levels of serum MMP-3 and IL-15 in groups A, B and I, II and control groups were compared respectively, and the correlation was analyzed. Results: The levels of MMP-3 and IL-15 in group A were significantly higher than those in group B and control group, while those in group B were significantly higher than those in control group (all P <0.05). The levels of MMP-3 and IL-15 in group Ⅰ were significantly higher than those in group Ⅱ and control group, while those in group Ⅱ were significantly higher than those in control group (all P <0.05). Correlation analysis showed that AS patients BASDAI, BASFI and MMP-3, IL-15 were significantly correlated (P <0.05). Conclusion: Serum MMP-3 and IL-15 are highly expressed in AS patients and play an important role in the pathogenesis and development of AS. Serum MMP-3 and IL-15 may be used as serological indexes to judge the severity of AS patients.
