地球的冥古宙是指地球生成后最初的6亿年。直到岩石地壳形成且地表也冷却到能够积聚雨水,地球的发展才进入了一个新纪元。地球上的大陆形成于太古代时期。这些大陆是由类似花岗岩的岩石所构成,这些岩石不但使地壳变厚,最后也形成第一期的山脉。海洋并非只是积满水的低地,还有与大陆完全不同的岩石地壳。微小的海洋植物释放出氧气进入大气层中,许多氧气因化学反应而消耗掉,但是剩下的仍然足以供给原始动物使用。到了6亿年前,有骨骼的动物一下子就大量出现。今天的地球在那个时候已经大致确定。
Earth’s ancient universe is the Earth’s first 600 million years after its birth.
