The US Department of Energy will provide $ 1.7 million in funding for the study; GE’s research and development center will pay the remaining amount. GE claims their research project aims to examine the technical issues posed by locomotive diesel fuel on coal slurry while analyzing the probabilities and costs of addressing these issues. GE will develop a dedicated fuel injection system for this purpose and conduct a series of combustion tests.
