瑞安县是以粮食生产为主的综合性农业地区。甘薯栽培面积占粮食总面积的35%以上,平原、山地、涂园均有种植。随着生产的持续大跃进,单位面积产量的不断提高,甘薯贮藏的范围,由过去仅贮薯种而发展到大量贮食用鲜薯,由一窖只贮几百斤发展到贮几万斤以上。从各地历来贮藏甘薯效果看来,鲜贮甘薯有三大优越性:一可调节劳力,保证秋收冬播,不误农时;二可防止甘薯霉烂,避免损失;三可增加复制品原料,增加鲜薯食用数量。
