Greece is conducting an “Athenian Lead Experiment” to study the fraction of lead (PbG) in healthy blood lead (PbB) in the Athens population that is not exposed to occupational exposure. Athens advanced petrol PbG from June 1, 1983 from the nominal 0.4g / L down to a nominal 0.15 g / L. It is now planned that a blood sample PbB will be collected every four months and samples of gasoline will be collected on a monthly basis in Athens oil tanks and some of the larger retail outlets for the determination of PbG. This study is expected to be completed by the spring of 1986 and this article reports the preliminary results. Since the data collected is still limited, we use the nominal PbG content instead of the actual measurement. The actual measured PbG is only slightly above the nominal PbG, so the corollary of this article, based on nominal PbG, is still realistic.
