以往学者论及汉代皇族教育,大多肯定其成功之处。与很多朝代相比,汉代特别是汉初七十年的皇族教育总体来看水平较低。汉代皇族子弟中频繁出现的“禽兽行,乱人伦”、残忍好杀、家庭不和等现象,表明汉代皇族教育存在严重问题。汉代皇族教育的历史起点较低,缺乏先秦那种系统完整的贵族教育;师傅的权威下降,不足以对皇族子弟形成有效的威慑和约束;汉初皇族的家庭教育环境也更多带有不重礼法的平民气息。这些都直接影响了汉代皇族教育的效果。
