Ulysses, by James Joyce, is regarded by many scholars as the best English novel of the 20th century and has been translated into many languages. However, the full version of its Chinese translation was not published until 1994. Few Chinese readers read the book before it was translated into Chinese. This paper tries to study the Chinese translations of Xiao Qian and Wen Jie-ruo, mainly discussing the two translation strategies of raising and adapting translators, and discussing how the translator can translate a “Bible” into the readability that ordinary readers can appreciate Strong texts and the role of literary translation in challenging and coordinating cultural differences.
