黄连在我国民间使用已有二千多年的历史。古代记载中用途颇广泛,应用于外科方面的,如元素曰:“黄连性寒味苦……其用有六:……诸疮必用三也……用于赤眼暴发五也……”又王(艹均)默氏简易方治痈疽肿毒:“已溃未溃皆可用黄连、槟榔等分为末,以鸡子清调擦之”。多年来民间传方中,亦常用黄连煎液来洗涤化脓性疮口。从这些记载中,已知黄连可治疮、痈等疾患。
