《孔子家語》的辨僞肇端於王學與鄭學的一場論争。此文由《聖證論》馬國翰輯本入手,對“鄭王之争”的具體情況及雙方策略有所考察,進而認爲馬昭謂“《家語》王肅所增加”只是在無法以常規方式反擊經學質難時的無奈選擇。清代學者因推崇鄭玄而希望回應王肅的質難。《聖證論》的亡佚使得從經學上進行回應變得難以完成,而效馬昭之故智,考證“《家語》王肅僞作”成爲了可行的辦法。分析可知,清人的疏證乃是由證明《家語》僞作,進而否定其内容記載的真實性。期間,他們的判斷標準和思維方式又往往來自經學。因此,疏證的最終目的是要證明傳世《家語》不具備充當經學證據的資格。這是一種經學研究,絶非客觀的文獻辨僞。
