为了促进环太平洋各国,特别是西太平洋国家的火山作用、成矿作用及有关矿产的有效勘探方法研究成果的学术交流,执行联合国亚太经社会自然资源委员会通过的区域矿产资源发展计划,1987年5月27日—30日,南京地质矿产研究所与联合国亚太经社会(ESCAP)自然资源司矿产处处长P·J巴克(荷兰地质学家)就召开“环太平洋火山成矿作用及有关矿产的有效勘探方法国际讨论会”简称“环太平洋火山成矿作用讨论会”商定了一份备忘录,要点如下:
