近年来,地方出版社竞相出书,“撞车”现象经常发生。销货店由于没有样书,良莠难辨,只好借助百余字的《内容提要》隔山买牛。这种“指腹为婚”的不了解出版全貌的进发货方式,有时对那些上乘佳作、优秀读物把握不准,不能一次订足,往往形成脱销;而对那些格调不高的消遣读物,则因订货过多,造成积压。出版社要想促进出版,服务销售,一方面必须改革编目方式,力求其形式多样,美观悦目,类别集中,重点书目突出,内容介绍真实生动;另一方面应大力推行发样书订货。看样发样订货是商品经营的起码要求,何况图书是一种特殊商品,其质量较难鉴别,使用价值也受到各种条件的限制。因此,图书看样发样进货更为必要。
