泰顺县位于东经119°42′、北纬27°34′。西南与福建相邻,境内山多田少,地形复杂,一般海拔高400—1000米。属亚热带海洋性气候,年平均气温16℃左右,七月份平均气温26℃以上,一月份平均气温6℃以下。年降雨量1600—2100毫米。总面积264.54万亩,其中宜林地208万亩。1971年以来共飞播马尾松、黄山松15.2万亩。经调查全县14个播区有林面积36,139亩,有苗面积17,813亩,共占播种面积的36％;疏林面积21,120亩,占14％。以保存面积计算,飞播造林每宙造价1.90元,平均每亩用工0.16个。实践证明,飞播造林速度快、功效高、劳力省、成本低,是加快绿化大面积交通不便的高山远山的有效途径。
