The distribution of a Yang-type class of mole-cules of mammalian cells,i.e.,sialoglycoconjugates,was investigated by fluorescence microscopy in thepancreatic tissue of rat.A conjugate of the sialicacid-binding lectin, limulin, with rhodamine wasused to detect Yang components at cellular level, with special attention on the acinar cell surface.Infixed-frozen sections of pancreas, the acinar cellsurface appeared asymmetrically decorated by thefluorescent tracer, with a characteristic concentrationof Yang-type sialoglycoconjugates at the apical poleof the cell.On the basolateral surface, their densitywas much lower, reflecting the structural and func.tional polarization of the cell.It was concludedthat the normal status of the pancreatic acinar cellis characterized by a specific distribution of Yangcomponents, delimitating on the cell surface distinctdomains with specific Yang characteristics.
The distribution of a Yang-type class of mole-cules of mammalian cells, ie, sialoglycoconjugates, was investigated by fluorescence microscopy in the pancreatic tissue of rat. A conjugate of the sialic acid-binding lectin, limulin, with rhodamine was used to detect Yang components at cellular level, with special attention on the acinar cell surface. In fixed-frozen sections of pancreas, the acinar cellsurface has been asymmetrically decorated by the fluid concentration tracer, with a characteristic concentration of Yang-type sialoglycoconjugates at the apical pole of the cell. On the basolateral surface, their density is much lower, reflecting the structural and functional polarization of the cell. It has beenthat the normal status of the pancreatic acinar cellis characterized by a specific distribution of Yangcomponents, delimitating on the cell surface distinctdomains with specific Yang characteristics.
