新中国国名的提出与确定新中国成立以前,中国共产党的领导人和民主人士写文章、演讲,大多都用“中华人民民主共和国”来称谓将来建立的新国家。1949年6月21日,新政治协商会议筹备会第一次会议上,涉及新中国名称时,有人主张用“中华人民民主共和国”,民主人士张奚若先生提出不如用“中华人民共和国”。在中国人民政治协商会议正式召开期间,董必武就采用“中华人民共和国”这一名称作了如下说明:“因为共和国说明了我们的国体,‘人民’两字在今天新民主主义的中国指工、农、小资产阶级和民族资产阶级四个阶级的
